Daily Prayer

Prayer: Father God we Pray that we will remember that all of our Ancestors came to this Great Country on different Ships, that we all fought together 244 years ago for our Freedom and that we are now ALL in the SAME ship now. That your Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ,  COMMANDED us as He ascended back into Heaven to be with You, to love each other as we do ourselves. Please help us all to remember that You created us all equal, none better than the other in Your Sight, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Daily Devotional: Dr Adrian Rogers

Love Worth Finding

October 01

You Won’t Believe the #1 Cause of Marital Conflict!

BIBLE MEDITATION:

“He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.”

(Ecclesiastes 5:10)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

I can say without a shadow of doubt that money is the root of all kinds of family problems. Many of our families are in financial bondage, and it’s the devil’s plan to keep you there.

One of the most helpful things American families can learn is the difference between needs and wants. We have wants that aren’t genuine needs, and the desire for more and more things isn’t making us happy.

Surveys of married couples show that the number one problem in homes is not sex, children, or in-laws, but finances. Many young couples today think they have to get in three years what it took their parents thirty years to accumulate, and they can go out and get it with the false god of credit.

Your personal value is revealed not by money but by godliness. You don’t need wealth to give you contentment, and what you do accumulate, you’re not going to be able to keep. You’ll never see a hearse going along with a U-Haul attached behind it. There are certain things we cannot keep and certain things we cannot lose.

What are you leaving behind? The greatest wealth you have is not in the bank. If you have children, your greatest wealth is your children. Prosperity is posterity.

ACTION POINT:

What legacy are you leaving in the hearts and lives of your children? Faithfulness to God? Love for His Word? Knowing how to pray and hear from God? Missionary statesman Jim Elliott said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

Daily Devotional: Dr Charles Hadden Spurgeon

October 01

Needs to Open Our Mouths
“Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it”   (Psalm 81:10).

What an encouragement to pray! Our human notions would lead us to ask small things because our deservings are so small; but the LORD would have us request great blessings. Prayer should be as simple a matter as the opening of the mouth; it should be a natural, unconstrained utterance. When a man is earnest he opens his mouth wide, and our text urges us to be fervent in our supplications. Yet it also means that we may make bold with God and ask many and large blessings at His hands, Read the whole verse, and see the argument: “I am Jehovah, thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” Because the LORD has given us so much He invites us to ask for more, yea, to expect more. See how the little birds in their nests seem to be all mouth when the mother comes to feed them. Let it be the same with us. Let us take in grace at every door. Let us drink it in as a sponge sucks up the water in which it lies. God is ready to fill us if we are only ready to be filled. Let our needs make us open our mouths; let our faintness cause us to open our mouths and pant; yea, let our alarm make us open our mouths with a child’s cry. The opened mouth shall be filled by the LORD Himself. So be it unto us, O LORD, this day.

Daily Devotional: Streams in the Desert

October 01

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: so the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange God with him” (Deut. 32:11-12).

Our Almighty Parent delights to conduct the tender nestlings of His care to the very edge of the precipice, and even to thrust them off into the steeps of air, that they may learn their possession of unrealized power of flight, to be forever a luxury; and if, in the attempt, they be exposed to unwonted peril, He is prepared to swoop beneath them, and to bear them upward on His mighty pinions. When God brings any of His children into a position of unparalleled difficulty, they may always count upon Him to deliver them.
–The Song of Victory

“When God puts a burden upon you He puts His own arm underneath.”

There is a little plant, small and stunted, growing under the shade of a broad-spreading oak; and this little plant values the shade which covers it, and greatly does it esteem the quiet rest which its noble friend affords. But a blessing is designed for this little plant.

Once upon a time there comes along the woodman, and with his sharp axe he fells the oak. The plant weeps and cries, “My shelter is departed; every rough wind will blow upon me, and every storm will seek to uproot me!”

“No, no,” saith the angel of that flower; “now will the sun get at thee; now will the shower fall on thee in more copious abundance than before; now thy stunted form shall spring up into loveliness, and thy flower, which could never have expanded itself to perfection shall now laugh in the sunshine, and men shall say, ‘How greatly hath that plant increased! How glorious hath become its beauty, through the removal of that which was its shade and its delight!'”

See you not, then, that God may take away your comforts and your privileges, to make you the better Christians? Why, the Lord always trains His soldiers, not by letting them lie on feather-beds, but by turning them out, and using them to forced marches and hard service. He makes them ford through streams, and swim through rivers, and climb mountains, and walk many a long march with heavy knapsacks of sorrow on their backs. This is the way in which He makes them soldiers–not by dressing them up in fine uniforms, to swagger at the barrack gates, and to be fine gentlemen in the eyes of the loungers in the park. God knows that soldiers are only to be made in battle; they are not to be grown in peaceful times. We may grow the stuff of which soldiers are made; but warriors are really educated by the smell of powder, in the midst of whizzing bullets and roaring cannonades, not in soft and peaceful times.

Well, Christian, may not this account for it all? Is not thy Lord bringing out thy graces and making them grow? Is He not developing in you the qualities of the soldier by throwing you into the heat of battle, and should you not use every appliance to come off conqueror?

–Spurgeon

What Happens When You Die?

WHEN A CHRISTIAN DIES THEY ARE TAKEN BY ANGELS TO BE WITH JESUS: LUKE 16:22 WHEN AN UNBELIEVER DIES HIS SOUL GOES STRAIGHT TO HADES/HELL: LUKE 16: 22-23.

TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN YOU MUST:

  1. BELIEVE, ON FAITH, JOHN 3:16: THAT GOD SENT HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, JESUS, TO THIS EARTH TO DIE ON THE CROSS AT CALVARY OVER 2,000 YEARS AGO, AS PAYMENT FOR ALL OF YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED IN A BORROWED TOMB, ROSE FROM THE DEAD ON THE 3RD DAY (EASTER) AND ASCENDED BACK INTO HEAVEN TO SIT ON HIS THRONE TO THE RIGHT-HAND OF HIS FATHER GOD AS OUR: HIGH-PRIEST, ADVOCATE, LORD AND SAVIOR;
  2. PRAY TO GOD ADMITTING THAT YOU ARE A SINNER AND THAT YOU REPENT OF THOSE SINS;
  3. ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOR, ON FAITH;
  4. THAT YOU ARE MAKING HIM THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE AND ARE GIVING HIM CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE, IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN.

If you do those 4 things, The Holy Spirit will enter your soul and you will become a Spiritually Born-Again Christian with your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life and have your ticket into Heaven when you die where you will be with The Father, Son and Holy Spirit and all other Christians for Eternity where there is no end!

John 14:6 makes it very clear that there is no other way into Heaven.

God loves you and He wants you to be with Him in Heaven!

But there is a problem: The entire Human Race has been infected with a disease sin since  Adam & Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden and there is only one cure for that sin: Jesus Christ. You CANNOT earn your way into Heaven: The Price has already been paid by Christ’s Death on the Cross, kind of like if you were eating at a Restaurant and the Waitress comes by & tells you that someone else picked up your check!

I personally am a great sinner,but I have a Great Savior.

I beg you to do these 4 things NOW! Those are probably the most important 3 letters in the English language! There may be no tomorrow for you; please accept Christ as your Personal Savior now and KNOW that all of your sins are forgiven and that you will go to Heaven when you die.

God Bless you,

Bob Lewis,

Sinner saved by Grace

GODLINESS EXALTS A NATION, BUT SIN

IS A REPROACH TO ANY PEOPLE!

PROVERBS 14:34

Spurgeon’s Evening Devotional

March 5

Morning …

1 Thessalonians 5:6
Let us not sleep, as do others.

There are many ways of promoting Christian wakefulness. Among the rest, let me strongly advise Christians to converse together concerning the ways of the Lord. Christian and Hopeful, as they journeyed towards the Celestial City, said to themselves, “To prevent drowsiness in this place, let us fall into good discourse.” Christian enquired, “Brother, where shall we begin?” And Hopeful answered, “Where God began with us.” Then Christian sang this song-

“When saints do sleepy grow, let them come hither,
And hear how these two pilgrims talk together;
Yea, let them learn of them, in any wise,
Thus to keep open their drowsy slumb’ring eyes.
Saints’ fellowship, if it be managed well,
Keeps them awake, and that in spite of hell.”

Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone, are very liable to grow drowsy. Hold Christian company, and you will be kept wakeful by it, and refreshed and encouraged to make quicker progress in the road to heaven. But as you thus take “sweet counsel” with others in the ways of God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus. Let the eye of faith be constantly looking unto Him; let your heart be full of Him; let your lips speak of His worth. Friend, live near to the cross, and thou wilt not sleep. Labour to impress thyself with a deep sense of the value of the place to which thou art going. If thou rememberest that thou art going to heaven, thou wilt not sleep on the road. If thou thinkest that hell is behind thee, and the devil pursuing thee, thou wilt not loiter. Would the manslayer sleep with the avenger of blood behind him, and the city of refuge before him? Christian, wilt thou sleep whilst the pearly gates are open-the songs of angels waiting for thee to join them-a crown of gold ready for thy brow? Ah! no; in holy fellowship continue to watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation.

Sagemont Founding Pastor Dr John Morgan

Why I Believe in the Return of Christ

One may ask, “Pastor, why do you passionately believe that Jesus is literally going to return to the earth?”  These are a few reasons:

Why I Believe in the Return of Christ

  1.  Jesus said He would!  John 14:3 “I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
  2.  The entire Christian view of history demands it.
  3. The prophetic signs found in scripture are now clearly being fulfilled.
  • Earthquakes all over the globe.  Matthew 24:7 – (over 20,000 since 1971)
  • Hearts will fail for fear.  Luke 21:26 –  Suicides are epidemic.
  • Great explosions of learning.  II Timothy 3:7 – People cannot discern the truth.
  • Immorality abounds.  Luke 17:26-27 – Like the days of Noah.

Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus will come to save His children and judge the rest.

Book: God and Churchill

God and Churchill

I have just completed reading one of the best books that I have read in the last twenty years.  God and Churchill, written by one of our newest Sagemont members Jonathan Sandys (pronounced “sands”), great-grandson of Sir Winston Churchill.  Wallace Henley, staff member at Second Baptist Church, Houston, assisted Jonathan in this profound book.  The purpose of the book is to make clear “how the great leader’s sense of divine destiny changed his troubled world and offers help for ours.”  Tyndale Momentum is the publisher.  The book has many profound quotes.  However, there is one that has impacted my life more than many others.  Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, addressing the Church of Scotland General Assembly in 1988, said “I think back to many discussions in my early life when we all agreed that if you try to take the fruits of Christianity without its roots, the fruits will wither.  And they will not come back unless you nurture the roots.”

One of the responsibilities of the Bride of Christ, the Church, is to keep Christianity on track and prevent the derailing of His ultimate purpose.  The paganism that is engulfing us today will ultimately destroy us unless we return to the roots of our faith.  “Our faith is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”  It is on the solid rock we must stand for truly all other ground is sinking sand.

Note:  The book God and Churchill is available in the Sagemont Bookstore.

Favorite Scriptures and Quotations

“Roll on Jehovah thy way” (Ps. 37:6, margin).

Whatever it is that presses thee, go tell the Father; put the whole matter over into His hand, and so shalt thou be freed from that dividing, perplexing care that the world is full of. When thou art either to do or suffer anything, when thou art about any purpose or business, go tell God of it, and acquaint Him with it; yes, burden Him with it, and thou hast done for matter of caring; no more care, but quiet, sweet, diligence in thy duty, and dependence on Him for the carriage of thy matters. Roll thy cares, and thyself with them, as one burden, all on thy God.
R. Leighton

Build a little fence of trust
Around today;
Fill the space with loving work
And therein stay.

Look not through the sheltering bars
Upon tomorrow;
God will help thee bear what comes
Of joy or sorrow.
Mary Butts

We shall find it impossible to commit our way unto the Lord, unless it be a way that He approves. It is only by faith that a man can commit his way unto the Lord; if there be the slightest doubt in the heart that “our way” is not a good one, faith will refuse to have anything to do with it. This committing of our way must be a continuous, not a single act. However extraordinary and unexpected may seem to be His guidance, however near the precipice He may take you, you are not to snatch the guiding reins out of His hands.

Are we willing to have all our ways submitted to God, for Him to pronounce judgment on them? There is nothing a Christian needs to be more scrutinizing about than about his confirmed habits and views. He is too apt to take for granted the Divine approbation of them. Why are some Christians so anxious, so fearful? Evidently because they have not left their way with the Lord. They took it to Him, but brought it away with them again.
