He putteth forth his own sheep (John 10:4).

Oh, this is bitter work for Him and us — bitter for us to go, but equally bitter for Him to cause us pain; yet it must be done. It would not be conducive to our true welfare to stay always in one happy and comfortable lot. He therefore puts us forth. The fold is deserted, that the sheep may wander over the bracing mountain slope. The laborers must be thrust out into the harvest, else the golden grain would spoil.

Take heart! it could not be better to stay when He determines otherwise; and if the loving hand of our Lord puts us forth, it must be well. On, in His name, to green pastures and still waters and mountain heights! He goeth before thee. Whatever awaits us is encountered first by Him. Faith’s eye can always discern His majestic presence in front; and when that cannot be seen, it is dangerous to move forward. Bind this comfort to your heart, that the Savior has tried for Himself all theexperiences through which He asks you to pass; and He would not ask you to pass through them unless He was sure that they were not too difficult for your feet, or too trying for your strength.

This is the Blessed Life — not anxious to see far in front, nor careful about the next step, not eager to choose thepath, nor weighted with the heavy responsibilities of thefuture, but quietly following behind the Shepherd, one step at a time.

Dark is the sky! and veiled the unknown morrow
Dark is life’s way, for night is not yet o’er;
The longed-for glimpse I may not meanwhile borrow;
But, this I know, HE GOETH ON BEFORE.
Dangers are nigh! and fears my mind are shaking;
Heart seems to dread what life may hold in store;
But I am His–He knows the way I’m taking,
More blessed still–HE GOETH ON BEFORE.
Doubts cast their weird, unwelcome shadows o’er me,
Doubts that life’s best–life’s choicest things are o’er;
What but His Word can strengthen, can restore me,
And this blest fact; that still HE GOES BEFORE.
HE GOES BEFORE! Be this my consolation!
He goes before! On this my heart would dwell!
He goes before! This guarantees salvation!
HE GOES BEFORE! And therefore all is well.

–J. D. Smith

The Oriental shepherd was always ahead of his sheep. He was down in front. Any attack upon them had to take him into account. Now God is down in front. He is in thetomorrows. It is tomorrow that fills men with dread. God is there already. All the tomorrows of our life have to pass Him before they can get to us.
–F. B. M.

God is in every tomorrow,
Therefore I live for today,
Certain of finding at sunrise,
Guidance and strength for the way;
Power for each moment of weakness,
Hope for each moment of pain,
Comfort for every sorrow,
Sunshine and joy after rain.

Why I Believe in the Return of Christ

God continues to bless Sagemont Church.  In the last two Sundays, over 100 people have made public decisions to make Jesus Christ Lord of their life.  Pastors Chuck Schneider, Stuart Rothberg, and Jim Hastings have been teaching the scriptures as both the Old and New Testaments prophesy and proclaim that Jesus Christ is coming back to this earth again to claim and receive His children unto Himself.  During the worship services, I am preaching the message and promise of the return of Christ.

One may ask, “Pastor, why do you passionately believe that Jesus is literally going to return to the earth?”  These are a few reasons:

Why I Believe in the Return of Christ

  1.  Jesus said He would!  John 14:3 “I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
  2.  The entire Christian view of history demands it.
  3. The prophetic signs found in scripture are now clearly being fulfilled.
  • Earthquakes all over the globe.  Matthew 24:7 – (over 20,000 since 1971)
  • Hearts will fail for fear.  Luke 21:26 –  Suicides are epidemic.
  • Great explosions of learning.  II Timothy 3:7 – People cannot discern the truth.
  • Immorality abounds.  Luke 17:26-27 – Like the days of Noah.

Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus will come to save His children and judge the rest.

“Lo, I Am With You”

BIBLE MEDITATION:

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” – Matthew 28:18-20

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Do you know what worry is? Worry is a mild form of atheism. It’s acting like God doesn’t exist. The great missionary David Livingstone took the Gospel to Africa and actually discovered and unlocked much of Africa. He lived a life of loneliness and danger. On January 14, 1856, surrounded by hostile people beating war drums like they were going to attack the next morning, he wrote in his journal: “Felt much turmoil of spirit in prospect of having all of my plans for the welfare of this great region and this teaming population knocked on the head by savages tomorrow.”

Sitting at his campfire, he knows what’s out there in the dark. Then he writes, “But I read that Jesus said, ‘All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth, go ye therefore and teach all nations, and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the world.’ This is the word of a gentleman of the most strict and sacred honor. I will not cross furtively as I had intended. Why should such a man as I flee? I shall take observations for latitude and longitude tonight. Though it may be the last, I feel quite calm now. Thank God.”

ACTION POINT:

Follow Livingstone’s example. Practice the presence of the Lord this coming year. You’re going to be tempted. Know that Jesus Christ never leaves us, never forsakes us. When the devil comes and knocks at your heart’s door, simply say, “Jesus, please go answer the door.”
